    Update: The Ohio State University has announced the suspension of face-to-face instruction of lectures, discussion sections, seminars, and other similar classroom settings, and the move to virtual instruction effective immediately and through the end of the semester. Also, events deemed nonessential between now and April 20 are subject to review, to evaluate whether they should continue in person.     The Department of Agricultural, Environment, and Development Economics (AEDE) will be hosting Darrick Hamilton, Executive Director at the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity on Friday, March 6. During this seminar, he will discuss his work on black land loss and US agricultural policy. Dr. Hamilton considers himself to be a stratification economist and his work is focused on the racial wealth gap in America and is currently serving as advisor to several democratic presidential candidates.     In honor of International Women's Day, UBWA is hosting a "Men as Allies" dinner with the goal of creating a safe and open environment where men can discuss & learn about women's experiences in the workforce, the benefits of female leadership, and how they can serve as allies. Frank Sasso (President of Kaufman Development) will be the evening's keynote. The event also features a panel with Lori Kaiser (CEO of Kaiser Consulting) and her male ally, Fred Urbanek (Director of Corporate Finance at Worthington Industries).

    At some point, most everyone will need to interview for an internship, job, fellowship, or other opportunity. Interviews can be stressful, especially if you do not have much experience doing so. In this session, we will discuss valuable interviewing techniques for those applying to jobs both inside and outside of academia.     Celebrate Women’s History Month 2020 by attending the Women’s Month Night Market at Ohio State University! From 7-9pm on Tuesday, March 3rd, dozens of women-owned and women-serving Columbus businesses, social enterprises, nonprofits, and student organizations will take over the Archie Griffin Ballroom at the Ohio Union to share their stories, introduce you to their passions, and sell their wares. A variety of Ohio State student artist groups will perform and women leaders will lead lightning talks and discussions throughout the evening.

    This session will explore the ways in which we each experience “the” American dream, where we feel “the dream” has fallen short, and how we can participate in building an America that is welcoming to everyone.

    This workshop is designed for mentors of undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and junior faculty. During this workshop, participating faculty will learn how to acknowledge the impact of conscious and unconscious assumptions, privilege, stereotype threat, and biases in the mentor-mentee relationship. Participants will use culturally responsive mentoring principles to guide them in talking about cultural diversity matters with their mentees.
